HISTORY |

|
Team manager, Mark Burdett started
racing karts in 1989 and competed in the British Championships. He then moved
into single-seater racing in 1992 in the Formula-First Winter Series.
1993 saw Mark race for the British
Motorsport Foundation Junior Team in the National Formula First
Championship.
In 1994, Mark Burdett Motorsport (MBM) was established to
focus on racecar preparation, winning the National Formula First Championship
title at the first attempt in 1995. The team proceeded to dominate the Formula
First championship tables, winning the National title four times and the winter
championship twice between 1994 and 2000.
Having developed and trained
championship winning drivers such as Danny Watts and Robbie Kerr who had moved
on to dominate the Formula Renault and Formula 3 championships the team was now
ready for a step up to Formula Renault.
During 2001 - 2002 the team
undertook an extensive testing and development program in preparation for 2003.
Returning to the Formula Renault UK
Championship for 2003 brought team sponsorship from Cadbury Schweppes. In the
most competitive season in the history of the championship, the team made
fantastic progress with lead driver Alex Storckenfeldt. The highlight of the
year being podium finishes in the final two meetings of the season. By the
season's end, the so called 'top 3' Formula Renault teams had become the 'top
4' to include Mark Burdett Motorsport
The 2003 Winter Championship
again made clear the MBM intention to become the leading team for 2004, with
Peru's Juan Polar qualifying second before crashing out from the front of the
pack. Polar remained at the team to be re-joined by Storckenfeldt. An extensive
winter test program and the team was ready to win.
2004 saw lead
driver, Storckenfeldt win at Silverstone and challenge for 3rd in the
championship until a karting accident broke his collarbone causing him to miss
two rounds. Alex recovered to finish the season in 4th place
overall.
2005 Saw the team expand into the Formula BMW UK Championship,
to run two rookie drivers, Aaron Steele and Ed Hoy. Hoy was replaced mid season
by 2004 Formula BMW UK Championship runner up, Philip Glew. Philip joined the
team and immediately demonstrated the pace of the car, securing podium finishes
in both races on his return to the championship
During his 6 races as a
guest driver with the team, Philip finished on the podium 4 times from his 6
races.
2006 saw the team enter a two car
team in Formula Renault and withdraw from the Formula BMW championship after
the drivers experienced budget difficulties before the start of the season.
Markus Niemela went from strength to strength, becoming especially strong in
the second half of the season, taking 3 podium finishes including one win, one
fastest lap and one pole position.
2007 Sho Hanawa and Daniel Iverson in
the UK Formula Renault Championship, with Paul Rees joining half way though the
season. In the Barc Formula Renault Championship Ollie Hancock finished in 3rd
place in the championship along with a win and podium places.
For the
Winter series Johannes Seidlitz, Fredrick Blomstedt and Scott Jenkins join the
team.
2008 Thomas Hylkema and Fredrick Blomstedt Raced for Mark Burdett
Motorsport in UK Formula Renault making good progress during their rookie
season, and Thomas also completed in the Renault Winter series. Johannes
Seidlitz and James Dixon in Barc Formula Renault with Johannes taking 2nd in
championship.
Additional members of the team is former British Formula
three champion Jonny Kane and Danny Watts who won the Formula Renault
Championship in 2002. We have one Driver Coach present at all test days to
train and assist with driver development.
"At Mark Burdett
Motorsport, we aim to win races and provide a winning package that produces
results for our sponsors and helps our drivers further their motor racing
careers." Mark Burdett. |
